Justin Bieber posted a picture of his butt on Instagram—and it's still there

This article contains sexually explicit material.

Last night, Justin Bieber posted a photo of his butt to Instagram, and the Internet had a collective Scanners moment.

Interestingly, while a handful of female celebs continue seeingtheir boob and butt shots deleted on Instagram, Bieber’s photo is still up this morning, further illustrating Instagram’s double standard on nudity. The Internet wasted no time deconstructing it.

And then #FreeTheButtcheek became a thing, as well as a pleas for Bieber to TURN AROUND

But what’s Bieber really pointing at in the photo? We may never know for sure.

Update 11:01am CT: One theory for what’s on the horizon?

Update 10:52am CT: In case you need a GIF of this moment, we got you a present:

Or, if you’d prefer a safe-for-work take:

The Netflix film Pee-wee's Big Holiday has been in production for a few months now, and it finally has a due date.

The movie, which is a sequel to 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, has been described as “an epic story of friendship and destiny.” With Judd Apatow attached as producer and John Lee (Wonder Showzen, Inside Amy Schumer) directing, who knows who else will show up.

The film will debut on Netflix in March; it marks the final film in Netflix’s first feature film slate. The Idris Elba drama Beasts of No Nation debuts first on Oct. 16.

Katie Couric set to interview Ze Frank at VidCon this month

0
0

As old media and new media continue their collision course, VidCon will bring both straight to the stage at this summer’s event, with world renowned journalist Katie Couric interviewing Internet mastermind Ze Frank.

Frank is a stalwart of Internet culture and one of the pioneers of digital video. Currently he’s the president of BuzzFeed Motion Pictures, where he’s developed a signature style of digital video content. Couric has served as a host on NBC, ABC, and CBS during her 36-year career, and she is now the Yahoo Global News Anchor.

“We’ve set the stage for Katie Couric, one of the most respected journalists of our time, and Ze Frank, one of the most creative online video personalities this industry has seen, to explore the future of narrative entertainment,” said Hank Green, co-founder of VidCon, in a statement. “This meeting of the minds will give attendees rare insight into one of the most exciting growth areas in online video, and is sure to offer a unique and unexpected view into the future.”

VidCon’s industry side, which caters to the business of online video as opposed to the fandom, has also announced several other high-profile speakers, including Susan Wojcicki of YouTube and Jennifer Prince of Twitter. Companies like Vessel, GoPro, and Periscope will all be represented at the event.

The convention also instituted a new Creator Track this year to cater to the area between fan and professional, aimed at creators looking to jump to the next level.  Meanwhile, the biggest stars of YouTube will be entertaining their fans on the Community Track with interviews, signings and panels.

VidCon runs July 23-26 in Anaheim, California.

Excellent—Harry Shearer is coming back to 'The Simpsons'

0

Simpsons fans can heave a collective sigh of relief as one of Springfield’s MVPs has finally come home again.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Harry Shearer, who voiced beloved characters such as Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, and more than a dozen others will return to The Simpsons seven weeks after he announced he would be leaving the show.

All together now:

The SimpsonsTwitter account also confirmed Shearer would be joining Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith, Nancy Cartwright, and Hank Azaria, who had already signed on to do more seasons of the show back in May.

Shearer signed a contract that will keep the cast together for four years. The show is already renewed for seasons 27 and 28, with a network option for possible seasons 29 and 30, and during that time, they will earn more than $300,000 an episode.

Almost as soon as he announced his exit in May, producers tried to work things out with Shearer; even he seemed open to the idea, telling CNNMoney “Stay tuned.” Had he not decided to return to The Simpsons, executive producer Al Jean had several backlogged episodes with Shearer’s recordings and would’ve recast all of the characters he portrayed over the years.

But truly, all of America should be relieved to not have to imagine a future in which Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has taken over Shearer’s roles (though we admit that would make a great “Treehouse of Horror” episode concept).

Update 2:35pm CT, July 7: Shearer responded to critics on Twitter and denied that he held out for money—reaffirming what he said in May—or that his departure and return was a publicity stunt.

Per his Twitter account, he also announced that he'll also be able to work on projects outside of The Simpsons.

Shane Dawson announces his bisexuality to 6.7 million fans

Shane Dawson joins the growing list of YouTubers who’ve come out on the platform, publishing a 14-minute video today explaining that he’s bisexual.

Dawson has made video on YouTube since 2008 and has even branched out to making films likeNot Cool in 2014, while continuing to engage with his 6.7 million fans. He says over the last year he’s been “extremely sexually confused.”

“This last year is when it really hit me,” he says in the video. “I always wished that I was gay, that I was 100 percent gay.”

Dawson goes on to talk about the stigma that comes with identifying as bisexual. He explains that, before doing this video, he’d only said that out loud once before—in therapy. The video details his struggles with self-hatred, with dating women and being attracted to both men and women. Dawson said he made this video because he hopes he can help others who, like him, don’t know who they are completely or don’t understand that there’s a sexual spectrum.

Several of his YouTube friends and fans have reacted to the news on social media.

Dawson joins several other prominent YouTubers who came out in the past year, including Joey Graceffa, Ingrid Nilsen, and Connor Franta. Fans continue to react while “Shane” trends on Twitter.

Chrissy Teigen posts provocative photo on Instagram—but this time not of herself

0
0

This article contains sexually explicit content.

Less than 24 hours after Justin Bieber’s butt started making the (ahem) rounds on Instagram, Chrissy Teigen has contributed a nude shot of her own: this time of a man who appears to be her husband, John Legend.

Teigen has a long history of posting nude photos on the app, culminating in a series of posts last week of herself topless, with one nipple exposed. Instagram—which explicitly bans nudity, including “sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks”—promptly removed each of Teigen’s variations of the photo. (Instagram does make exceptions for post-mastectomy and breastfeeding photos, after much public outcry.)

Meanwhile, Bieber’s photo of his fully exposed buttocks remains up on the site. (All three posts have been screencapped instead of embedded in this article in case of removal.)

Teigen, for her part, seems to have recognized the apparent double standard; the former Sports Illustrated model tagged Instagram’s account in the comment on her post, seemingly to draw the administrators’ attention to the photo. She’s remained quiet on Twitter, however, where she previously promised the once-banned nipple “will be back.”

While Tiegen appears to have been motivated by the Bieber photo given the timing, she has not clarified whether it spurned her latest picture. The Daily Dot reached out to Instagram for comment on why Bieber’s photo was allowed to remain live; we will update if we hear back.

Did a Reddit user leak Kanye West's new album?

0
0

Rapper Kanye West is sitting on an album that is either finished or in the final stages of completion. It's gone through two publicly confirmed album titles (So Help Me God, and more recently SWISH), one fake tracklist, and has boasted three high-profile singles since New Year's Eve. With no public release date on the books, West fans are glued to their timelines like doctors on call—assuming this baby will drop at a moment's notice.

But the way Reddit tells it, the most-anticipated pop album of the year has been uploaded as a 59-minute-long file to the r/hiphopheads subreddit.

On Tuesday, a since-deleted thread by an unknown user claimed to have covertly recorded SWISH on a phone, outside of a listening party. Also included was a speculative tracklist.

West is known to gather friends and play them his work. And the file itself is easily found by poking around in the comments. But despite the file and its muffled, West-like audio, the jury's out on whether it's a legitimate bootleg.

For one, the quality is atrocious. Anyone that takes on the file is doing so on a purely archaeological level. This file sounds like when a marching band is practicing in a neighboring parking lot.

At the 20-minute mark, there's a heavy, drum-soaked traditional rap song wherein West injects an arresting and distinct wave of pleading howls. At the 35-minute mark, it sounds like West is having an emotional breakdown and talking to God. It's easy to believe that this is the avant-garde creative fit that's been promised.

But not so fast. As the Reddit threads point out, during the "I Want It All" section there's audio that is strikingly identical to this concert rip. Particularly an audience member's reaction:

Every section seems like its just one of the song leaks with some added kid playing beats over the top. This is fake. listen at 0:06... now listen to the 'leak' at 23:50 same "WOAH" yell from an audience member

West has yet to comment on the reported leak.

Shaggy has the perfect plan to neutralize the ISIS threat

0
0

Shaggy has the perfect solution for destroying ISIS, and it has nothing to do with dropping bombs, making a personalized ISIS flag that features dildos, ordering alcohol at the terrorist organization's five-star hotel, or even setting up your own mock execution with some blokes from work.

Like John Lennon once sang, all you need is love... of Shaggy's music. Throw in some weed with that reggae sound, and, like Bob Marley once believed, everything's gonna be alright.

"If you’re able to cut a man’s head off, you’re sick," Shaggy told the Miami New Times. "But right, music evokes emotion. So if they’re listening to Shaggy music or reggae music, they’re not going to want to cut somebody’s head off.

"There’re two things you want to do when you listen to reggae: You get somebody pregnant, or you’re fucking high. High people don’t want to kill nothing; they want to love. They need to bag some Jamaican weed and distribute it amongst ISIS. I guarantee there won’t be any more wars out there."

That's, um, interesting policy. Perhaps the reggae star could let Barack Obama know about this newly developed strategy to deal with the Islamic State.

"Man, it’ll put them in a vibe," he said. "And throw some Bob Marley up in there and there’ll be peace. Some of these world leaders need to be stoners though, really."

But then again, Shaggy's latest single is one that might not evoke such peaceful feelings if somebody uttered the title to ISIS in anger.

So, how does ISIS relate to "Go Fuck Yourself," especially if, as Shaggy declares, the organization is only a millisecond away from getting the finger?

"ISIS can go fuck themselves," Shaggy said. "That’s some crazy shit what they’re doing. It’s horrible, man. I can’t see... I don’t get that much hate. I just don’t get that level of evil. I can’t understand it."

Though ISIS probably wouldn't like to hear that take, give them enough Jamaican weed and it probably wouldn't matter. Because with Shaggy's music and his pot, ISIS would want to make love, not war.

Hannibal Buress' fake 'Daily Show' audition tape is a comedy gem

0
0

We only have the slightest idea of what Trevor Noah will be like as the new host of The Daily Show, plus the names of a few comedians who said no to the job, but we can clearly see why one potential candidate wasn't hired.

Hannibal Buress knew he would never get the gig because he’s black, but he tried for it anyway, and it’s evident he had no idea what he was getting into. He tries, but eventually he just switches over to saying whatever he thinks might make the most sense for his version of the show—which is a lot different than the one we've seen on TV all these years.

It’s all part of a sketch for Why? with Hannibal Buress, which premieres Wednesday at 10:30pm ET on Comedy Central, but something tells us he might be better doing what he knows best over there. Plus, he gets the pre-Daily Show audience, so that works out just as well for him.

Pewdiepie takes on critics of his immense wealth in a new YouTube video

0
0

Much like reality-TV stars, YouTube celebrities get a lot of pushback for achieving "undeserved" fame and fortune. Video-game vlogger Pewdiepie is the ultimate example, topping the YouTube charts for years with his seemingly facile videos—and earning over $7 million in 2014 alone.

After people began to complain about Pewdiepie's gigantic paychecks, he decided to make a video addressing the topic. In the video, the 25-year-old YouTuber says that when he began posting videos, he had no idea it would turn into a career. At one point, he says, he was working at a hot-dog stand to pay the rent.

While he does mention the old "money doesn't buy happiness" philosophy (easy to say when you're a millionaire), he has a surprisingly sensible attitude about his unexpected success.

As Pewdiepie points out, the criticism that "anyone" could make his videos cuts both ways: He is living proof that an ordinary person can win the YouTube jackpot, and while his own fame is mystifying to many people, his riches rely solely on fans continuing to watch his videos.

Wealth is rarely proportional to merit, especially in the world of entertainment, but in many ways Pewdiepie's fame is fairer than that of a Hollywood star who relied on publicists and talent agents to reach the A-list.

#WCW Anglophenia: British culture with an American accent

0
0

The Daily Dot is celebrating Woman Crush Wednesday, better known as #WCW on Twitter and Instagram, by highlighting female creators on YouTubewhose work we admire.

Before we dive into our latest lady-lovin’ segment, I feel it only right to confess that I—Carly Christine Lanning—am slightly obsessed with British YouTubers. Maybe it’s their accents, quick wit, love of tea, high-quality content, or knack for deadpan humor, but whenever I’m asked who my favorite creators are (which happens often when your job is in video curation), I begin rattling off my long list of British favorites until the question asker’s eyes glaze over and they begin wondering when my lungs will run out of oxygen.

So it should be no surprise that this week’s #WCW is dedicated to one of the very best British YouTube channels, Anglophenia: a one-stop shop for everything you need to know about British culture. Created by the BBC, each video perfectly blends comedy and education to explore the quirks and whims of British lifestyle and history with favorites like “If Shakespearean Insults Were Used Today,” “Brits vs. Americans: Clothing Words,” and the channel’s most popular video to date, “One Woman, 17 British Accents.” Want to learn about how Brits celebrate Christmas or who the real Sherlock Holmes is? Anglophenia has all the answers.

Since its creation a year and a half ago, the channel has gained over 8.9 million views, a statistic heavily influenced by the charm of the show’s hosts and writers, Siobhan Thompson and Kate Arnell. Taking over for Thompson two months ago, Arnell previously worked as a host for MTV and Disney before moving to YouTube. And in her new role as Anglophenia’s queen that she’s taught the world its most important lesson: how to make a proper cup of tea. Alongside the weekly videos, Anglophenia boosts a popular blog covering the most important tidbits of British pop culture that have kept the channel’s viewers across the pond up to date on all things ranging from Sir Ian McKellen and Doctor Who, from British summer cocktails to Harry Potter personality quizzes.

Anglophenia is just one of many great examples of how the BBC is infiltrating the digital media space. This past year, the network has begun tapping the talents and audiences of long-time YouTube creators such as Jack Howard, Dean Dobbs, Ben Cook, Dan Howell, and Phil Lester by giving them their own BBC Radio shows. And should you be in the market for more British creators to fall in love with, might I also suggest Carrie Hope Fletcher, Lex Croucher, Hazel Hayes, Daniel J. Layton, and Dodie Clark for starters.

Reddit's 5 best suggestions for its very own 'Mythbusters' episode

0
0

If you've ever wanted to propose an experiment for the Mythbusters boys to test out—or just suggest something for them to blow up—you're about to get your chance.

Mythbusters host Adam Savage braved Internet armageddon to stop by Reddit’s r/mythbusters community with an ideaMythbusters wants to do an episode featuring experiments suggested by Reddit.

No, really.

This could easily be a disaster in the making, but Savage sounds like he knows what he’s doing.

“Yup, we're handing over the editorial of an episode to YOU,” Savage wrote. “So if you've got a TESTABLE myth you want us to tackle, post it below. If you've got a myth you think we messed up and should do again, then put it here in this thread.

Savage said the team was "also interested in novel methodologies if you guy have something interesting in that regard too!"

"If you want us to blow something up, here's where you can tell us!" he wrote. "Or if you've just got a burning desire to send something weird and wonderful to its doom courtesy of the rocket sled, then you know what to do.”

Fans will have approximately two weeks to submit their ideas before the Mythbusters R&D team picks the best ones. The episode itself will likely air sometime in early 2016.

The only real restriction is that the experiments have to be PG-13 in nature. Fart-related myths, however, are completely on the table. (Fans will also lose the rights to the idea by posting it and will not be compensated if their idea is used in the episode.)

Savage and his team will have more than enough myths to choose from—some doable, others not so much—so we've gathered our favorites from the suggestions listed so far. When people finally have the chance to propose things they've waited years to explore, they get pretty creative.

1) Rapunzel hair myths (or even fairy tale myths in general)

That should be the main question from this classic fairy tale: How is that even possible? That poor girl’s neck.

2) A Back to the Future-themed episode to mark when Marty McFly goes to 2015

Mythbusters might already be planning a Back to the Future episode for the film’s 30th anniversary, but if the show wasn't already on it, these are some solid ideas that don't involve time travel.

3) How effective are smartphones at stopping bullets?

The number of people who put their phones in a breast pocket might rise after this.

4) Can you escape a land mine without dying by putting something of equal weight on it?

Imagine how many scenarios would suddenly become escapable if this worked out.

5) Can you punch your way out of a paper bag?

This one's more on the silly side, but it raises the question: What if we can’t?

Bonus: Just get Jeremy Clarkson involved and blow cars up.

Johnny Depp visits sick kids in Australia while dressed as Jack Sparrow

0

The jury’s still out on whether the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is a good idea or just a senseless ploy for money, but there’s at least one good thing to come out of it.

Johnny Depp, who visited children’s hospitals dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow long before the Marvel superheroes warmed our hearts with their visits, made an appearance at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, Tuesday night as the swarthy character.

He’s currently in Australia filmingPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and he arrived in-character with actor Stephen Graham, who plays Scrum in the films,. They flew in from the Gold Coast by helicopter just for the occasion.

The nonprofit Children’s Hospital Foundation set up the meeting with Depp and Graham, who took photos with patients thrilled that they came to visit.

Juiced TV, a TV show at Lady Cilento that’s “made by the kids in the hospital, for the kids in the hospital,” captured the moment and thanked Depp for coming to visit.

We presume that Jack Sparrow went back to doing what he does best after the hospital visit, which is being a pirate. And probably drinking rum, for good measure.

We dare you to look away from Will Arnett lip-syncing 'Everything Is Awesome'

0

Everything is cool when you’re part of a team, so long as Will Arnett is on that team. The comedian proves that on this week’s Lip Sync Battle with an eye-catching performance of “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie.

Arnett has a special connection to the film, as he voiced Batman in the blockbuster. He pulls off both the Tegan and Sara vocals and the Lonely Island rap parts of the number with equal aplomb. But a win won’t be easy, as he'll take on his fellow Lego Movie star Allison Brie in the battle, which premieres Thursday, July 9, 10pm ET.

Selena Gomez's sultry new song stirs a social media backlash

0
0

Selena Gomez has a certified pop hit on her hands. Her new song “Good For You” landed at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Digital Songs Chart this past week— her first No 1. But a high-profile detractor doesn't like the traditional values reinforced by the sultry new single, and he's led the social-media backlash.

“Good For You” is the first single to be released from Gomez’s upcoming album, and it's sold 178,000 copies. It’s also listed as No. 7 on iTunes Top Songs, as of Wednesday afternoon.

The music video for the song (which Gomez called “very performance-based”) debuted one week ago. It has 26,873,860 views on YouTube.

“I feel like the way I performed it, the way the story kind of unfolds… it’s my, my story,” Gomez said in a behind-the-scenes video.

“It’s how a woman feels when they wake up in the morning,” Gomez added. “When their hair is wet and when they’re in a white T-shirt. Things that make women feel sexy and feel beautiful.”

Gomez also said the song marks a personal transition: “The combination of it being a sexy song and feeling like a sexy young woman. I am becoming a young woman... A lot of who I am and who I think people kind of see me as are kind of different. It’s nice to kind of step into womanhood and I think that’s what this video represents."

The two co-writers, Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, also chimed in on the meaning behind the song.

“Whether you’re a man or a woman, masculine or feminine, there’s something so passionate about like wanting to look good for the person that you love,” Tranter said in the same behind-the-scenes video.

Though the song has been successful since its release, "Good For You" is not without its critics. In his Snapchat story, Frankie Grande (YouTube star and Ariana’s older half-brother) called the singer out. Listening to “Good For You” in the car, the caption reads “how about look good 4 URSELF?”

He later followed up with a tweet and an Instagram post on the subject, telling his followers to “Shine bright like a you.”
Since Grande’s criticisms have surfaced, “Selenators” and others have taken to Twitter to defend both Gomez and the song.
Amid the backlash, there are also those who praise Grande for his comments.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Gomez hasn’t responded to the criticism.

Vince McMahon's weirdly specific WWE announcer rules reportedly leak

0
0

A user of the Reddit sub Squared Circle has released what are (allegedly) notes from Vince McMahon, which were passed down through various channels to his WWE broadcasters in 2010.

Generally, they're what you'd expect from a boss handing notes down to an employee—like the package you'd read when you begin training at a Starbucks—but there are some fun, WWE-specific portions that are funny and unintentionally poetic. While the overall idea of the eight pages is to inform the announcers that they should use colorful language, not step on the in-ring action with their words, and generally know what the names of the people in the ring are, we've picked out a few standout moments from them. For instance, from a section entitled "Do's":

Take the high road- don't be crude, especially with the Divas.

Take that, progressives! As you can see, the WWE, a corporation highly criticized for its sexism, is clearly making an effort to be classy, and especially when it comes to the hot pieces of scantly clad meat that they're parading around on the television. So lighten up. Another note that exemplifies some progressive action:

Please be aware of major international events like the Earthquake in China, the Tsunami, the Mumbai Terrorist incident and be sensitive to people in those areas. You don't necessarily have to call them out but don't inadvertently insult them and others sympathetic by using a move's name or an analogy that could be hurtful.

See? This is a sensitive company, so don't expect to hear insulting things, like "he's dropped that elbow like a bomb on an Iraqi hospital!" during the matches. Also, don't expect to hear other potential trigger words:

Also, we never want to use the term "choked out" or the word "choke" at all. We have renamed Undertaker's submission the "Triangle Submission Hold."

Now that's a submission name that really rolls off the tongue, and fits great on T-shirts. Also under the "Do's" is what should probably be a don't, but let's not get semantic here:

Do not use the word hatred.

Of course not. This is the WWE, not some gruesome, violent soap opera. The "Don't's" even include a note that says "Don't call blood." But, wait—that note is immediately followed by this:

Don't say "Edge is busted open," instead say "Edge got his teeth knocked down his throat!" or "Edge's nose must be broken!"

After the proceeding notes, those are somewhat conflicting suggestions. Things get weirder in the notes, including a section entitled "Pronouns" which begins with:

Do not use pronouns.

This advice is obviously taken by those sending these notes down, as seen with this excerpt:

Know something unique about each Superstar and do not use all one knows about a Superstar in one match featuring that Superstar.

It's a good thing they didn't use pronouns—that sentence might be difficult to understand if those things were in there. In that same note, the WWE announcing style is slyly compared to getting somebody addicted to crack cocaine:

The goal is to make each Superstar elicit an emotional reaction and investment from the viewer so the viewer is compelled to tune in next week to sample more of the product

And, going from weird to poetic—and slightly creepy, like waking up next to a horse's head that the Godfather has left next to you in your sleep—the next note is our favorite bit from these instructions:

Personal issues are ever lasting. Most people will remember the emotional stories our Superstars are involved in. For example, no one will forget the Austin-McMahon rivalry but few will remember who the champion was during those epic struggles at every turn in the road. Titles are important, but only as important as we make them, but personal issues last forever.

Well, that got heavy. But it shouldn't be! This is just entertainment—hell, it's not even as heavy as something like, I dunno, sports might be:

Please do not use the term Sports Entertainment. Going forward, please use "Entertainment" in place.

Yup, it's just entertainment, folks, although it's probably just called that for some sort of legal reason, in case the government someday decides to hold sports organizations responsible when they're athletes die of painkiller addictions, or just die right there on live television.

We'll leave with this excerpt, which is instructing the proper dynamic that should exist between the color commentator, and the one who's doing the play-by-play stuff:

Play by play announcers cannot be emasculated by their broadcast partners.

Indeed. Nobody wants their broadcasting partner to make them look like some kind of woman, unless, of course, the broadcaster is a woman.

Hah! That's a joke—everybody knows that women in the WWE are Divas, not broadcasters.

Stephen Colbert made the perfect post-apocalyptic video to cap Wednesday's scary news

0
0

Between China's stock market crash, the New York Stock Exchange freeze, and the thousands of grounded United Airlines planes, Wednesday felt a bit like the opening scenes of an apocalypse movie. And thanks to Stephen Colbert, we now have a report from an alternate universe where those events really did mark the beginning of the end.

Colbert posted a video from his post-apocalyptic bunker/office, surrounded by emergency supplies and supported by an intern dressed as one of Mad Max: Fury Road's War Boys. He's clearly making the most of his vacation time between The Colbert Report and taking over The Late Show this fall.

For the full effect, we recommend following this video with Molly Crabapple's Guardian article from the dystopian wasteland of New York's financial district. The end is nigh!

Listen to this exclusive session with Lera Lynn, the breakout voice from 'True Detective'

0

You probably haven't heard of Houston-born, Georgia-raised country singer Lera Lynn. But you might have inadvertently Googled her:

“What's the song in True Detective season 2 trailer”

“True Detective season 2 song”

“Who is True Detective season 2 singer”

“True Detective bar scene singer who is”

The answer to these queries is Lynn. Her unreleased track “The Only Thing Worth Fighting For” turned heads during the show’s April trailer, and Lynn popped up as the dive-bar singer in a memorable scene with Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

“T Bone asked if I would like to do some writing for the show,” Lynn told Entertainment Weekly about her surprising encounter with country legend and True Detective soundtrack composer T Bone Burnett. “Before I knew it, I was on my way to L.A. and sitting a room with a couple guitars and writing songs with T Bone.”

Burnett reportedly passed Lynn some circa-1930s Mexican folk from Lydia Mendoza, and per EW, told Lynn to write heavy: “Go as dark as you can. Just do it. Make it sad. Make it fucked up.” It’s a knack that comes easy for the biting writer.

The Daily Dot has partnered with Daytrotter to highlight one session a week, which will be available to stream here exclusively in its entirety. In this installment, HBO’s summer breakout commodity plays you four lingering, rye-fueled, chugging-into-the-station country nuggets. Drink up.

For nearly a decade, Daytrotter has been recording some of the best talent around, and now you can stream half of this incredible (and growing) archive, featuring thousands of band sessions, for free—or join for full access and free downloads.

Amy Schumer and Hannibal Buress nail the problem with Internet trolls

BY LAURA DONOVAN

Lovable Broad City star Hannibal Buress's new series Why? With Hannibal Buress premiered Wednesday and highlighted many current societal issues including police brutality against the black community and Internet harassment. In Buress's trolling segment, fellow Comedy Central host Amy Schumer portrays a vicious troll.

At the beginning of the segment, Buress tells audience members that he's been menaced nonstop by an online user named Hannibal_Hater@NotAFannibal, who says Buress is "a less funny Tavis Smiley," and should kill himself.

Buress mentions that he found the user's IP address and films himself going over to the individual's house, which has a beat-up car outside. When Buress enters the home, he is stunned to realize the troll is explosively popular Schumer.

"What it sounds like [is] you're not really angry at me, you're mad at yourself and you have some demons," Buress says. "Not big demons, but maybe some small demons. You just have some stuff going on inside of you that you're dealing with, it's not really personal [or] about me."

This comes a few months after Buress was heckled at one of his comedy shows, prompting him to say to the heckler, "Why can’t you hold your liquor? Actually, I want to give you an excuse to be drunk, and not just a shitty, obnoxious human being. I’ve done shit when I was drunk. Not interrupt a show that 1,100 other people are watching. When I’m drunk I like to ruin one or two people’s nights ... You sir are a social terrorist."

Buress pointed out that the guy clearly wanted attention, which Buress himself has earned after more than a decade of hard work.

“You have a bigger need for attention that I do,” Buress said. “At least I worked at it and got on television ... If you want attention, you have to do what I did and work really hard for 13 years.”
